Welcome to Homeopathy for Families. My name is Mary Nuñez and I am a classically trained homeopath.  I am also a registered nurse and a birthing doula.

Homeopathy is a holistic practice of medicine. This means it considers not just your physical self but also your mental, emotional, and spiritual self as well.

Understanding who you are is just as important as the symptoms you walk in the door with. It is necessary to understand the individual, as this is vital to understand the core of ones   pathology.

Homeopathy is used safely to treat newborns, pregnant mothers, the elderly, the dying, and everyone in between. It is given in acute situations such as the flu, ear infections and shock. But its most profound affects can be observed when treating someone on a constitutional level, To see symptoms leave that have been plaguing someone for years is nothing less than amazing. I serve the San Gabriel Valley area including Altadena, Pasadena, La Cañada, South Pasadena, La Crescenta, Monrovia, Arcadia, Eagle Rock, and the greater Burbank area.

Being a previous labor and delivery nurse, the birthing world has always been a part of my professional life. It is a joy and a privilege to attend a birth. Homeopathy can be wonderful for the woman in labor.  It can be used very safely and effectively during the labor and delivery process. Weather one has anxiety or low back pain, this gentle energetic medicine can help support the woman during the course of her labor as well as support the healing efforts of the body after the delivery. It is safe to take while pregnant and while breastfeeding.

My name is Mary Nuñez.

I was born and raised in  Southern California and live in the beautiful Altadena foothill community with my husband and children.  I  am a classically trained homeopath, having graduated from a 3 year program at the Los Angeles School of Homeopathy. I earned my diploma in Homeopathy (d.Hom).  Before becoming a homeopath, I worked as a registered nurse in the Pasadena area for 15 years. I hold a bachelors degree of science in nursing from Loyola University, Chicago. The bulk of my nursing experience is in labor and delivery, with time spent in outpatient surgery and in an outpatient pain clinic setting. I believe that my experience in western medicine brings me a unique skill set of understanding health from both the perspective of modern day medicine and modern day homeopathy. I have seen the limitations of western medicine but appreciate also the need for it. I believe that western medicine and homeopathy can co - exist together in order to support our patients to achieve their individual health goals.

My mission is to reach patients where they are in their quest for health. If they are knocking on my door, it is highly probable that they have knocked on many doors before mine, looking for answers.  I strive to practice homeopathy in order to help each  patient feel  their strongest and most vital.

My Story

How homeopathy came to me

I began exploring homeopathy 8 years ago when searching for answers to my daughters health issues.  Being a nurse, I had referrals to the best specialists and best care. This was a frustrating time resulting in countless doctor appointments that all ended with treatment options including invasive testing, and palliative medications. There were no answers that even remotely dealt with the core of what caused the ailment to begin with.  For over a year, I fed my daughter a daily pill that I knew was not healing her, but just masking the problem. (This was after trying as many natural and gentle options as I could find on the market.)  Her symptoms were being relieved, but the problem still existed. It scared me that the long term affects of this medication were unknown and that I was willingly medicating her without knowing the implications.. I felt I had no choice. A friend recommended I take my daughter to an alternative health practitioner who had helped her own health so much. I found new hope. It was something different, something out of my small box of understanding and something that I knew nothing about. I was ready to try a new option.  My 8 year old daughter and I sat down with the most lovely, gentle woman who talked with us for an hour and a half. Unheard of! No doctor had ever taken such a thorough history of my daughter. No specialist spent more than 15 minutes with us. Through this case taking, we figured out the insult that started the spiral of my daughters weakened state of health. The beginning of her healing started right then and there with the interview.  Someone listened to our entire story.  It started not only the healing process for my daughter, but sparked the journey I was to take in changing careers within the world of health and changing my view and understanding of what health really is.  Today, my daughter is strong and healthy.  We are miles away from where we started.  Homeopathy changed her life, and changed my family's life forever as well.

What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a system of medicine that has been around for over 200 years. The founder of this medicine was a German physician named Samuel Hahnemann. (1755-1843). The name homeopathy comes from the Greek words similar sufferings. This is the basis of the main homeopathic principle that like cures like.   AlthoughHippocrates (460-377 BC), first introduced the notion of like cures like in disease, Hahnemann took it and evolved it even further to form one of the founding principle's of the medicine; the law of similar's.

A homeopathic medicine, (remedy), that is taken by a healthy person will produce particular symptoms. If someone is ill and exhibits these same symptoms, the remedy can be used to stimulate their healing. It isn't exact but it is similar enough to spark an immune response from the body. An oversimplified example might be someone who suffers throbbing migraines from standing out in the sun for too long and feels better by lying in a quiet dark place laying on her stomach. A remedy is given that would also create the same migraine symptoms including feeling better laying on the stomach in a quiet dark room. It is similar enough to the problem therby stimulating the body's own healing response. Homeopathy respects the body's intelligence. The law of similar's guides this intrinsic ability rather than suppressing it.

Homeopathy is a medicine made from natural substances of the earth including plants, animals and minerals. We call the medicine a remedy. These natural substances are broken down in a very unique process of succussion and dilution which is what gives the remedy its particular strength or what we call potency. The higher the potency, the stronger the energetic scope of the remedy.  It is up to the homeopath to match the potency of a remedy to the energetic state of the person to be treated. Through Hahnemann's years of trial and error, he found that when giving remedies of a more crude concentration, the more aggravating the medicine would act on the person. Through the process of succussion and dilution, (moving further away from the crude substance), there are no longer even trace particles of the substance.  (remedies of a 12c potency or higher)  What is left is the energetic thumbprint of the substance.  Any harmful or poisonous components of the original substance are gone, yet the therapeutic abilities remain. This is how remedies made of snake venom or arsenic are used without negative implications. Under a microscope, no trace of the original substance can even be seen, yet the energetic potential has only grown!

A remedy is learned and studied by testing it on healthy human subjects. This is done through a process we call a proving.  In a proving, small amounts of the substance under investigation are given to people who then record their symptoms and experiences.  When this process is done, which may take weeks or even months, the common symptoms are then gathered from the provers' journals.  Those symptoms form the basis for that substance's use as a homeopathic remedy. It can then be used to treat someone who is ill with similar symptoms.

How Homeopathy differs from western medicine:

1.  Homeopathy considers your whole self
and not just the migraines that brought you into the office. It sees your complaint as a disturbance within the entire organism and the migraine is one way it is being expressed. Western medicine treats the migraine as an isolated event.

2.  Homeopathy  is  not a medicine of suppression
We believe that the body, in order to heal itself, must express itself. Western medicine often masks the core problems with a medication but doesn't actually take care of the issue. Taking routine Tylenol for migraines may help temporarily but it doesn't heal the root cause of the migraines.

3.  Remedies are safe and effective for all ages
One pellet can be used for a baby, an adult, an elder or even your pet dog. There is no hassle of measuring and worrying of overdosing.

4.  Remedies don't have side effects like other medications
When a remedy is acting on a person, there may be aggravations that are initially observed. Your body is reacting to the remedy and beginning the process of healing.  These aggravations are usually short lived before the person starts to feel the greater positive affects of the remedy.

5.  Because remedies are stable on their own
There are no  chemical additives or preservatives.  And they don't expire as long as stored correctly.

6.  There are no worries of
Remedies being in conflict with other medications or supplements you may be taking.  It is safe to take with prescription medications, herbs, supplements, etc.  It is important for the homeopath to know everything you are taking  though, because sometimes  supplements and medications  can lessen the affect of the remedy and your homeopath may need to adjust how often you need to take your remedy.

The symptoms that a person comes in complaining about are some of the clues the homeopath collects and studies in order to find the remedy that is best suited at that time.  I will listen to you to understand your physical, mental and emotional complaints. But I am also interested in things such as your sleeping pattern, your lifestyle, habits, likes and dislikes, favorite foods and what position you sleep in.  An overall sense of who you are is necessary for me to do my job well.  This is why the first meeting typically takes 1.5 -2 hours. This is not a therapy session where I interject and give advice or strategies. Quite the contrary. I am here as an impartial and non judgmental listener.  I will only ask questions to clarify a symptom.  Everything discussed is confidential.

Followups are typically much less in time, lasting between 30 and 45 minutes. Often, I want to see you back about six weeks after starting a remedy.  That gives enough time for not only you to see or feel any changes, but for myself to assess you to see if we are on the right path.  I might ask for a few email correspondences in-between the first couple visits.

Once a remedy is working and you start to feel the healing affects, the appointments will spread out. This depends on the nature of your symptoms, if anything new comes up, and how comfortable you are feeling.  Once you start to understand how your remedy is acting on you, you will be able to gauge yourself when you need a follow up.

I am a Homeopath, not a doctor, nor a Naturopath.  I do not make diagnoses, or treat named diseases.  Although knowing your medical problems and diagnoses can be important, homeopathy is much more concerned with your symptomology and how your body is expressing its distress. Having a primary physician is important.  I will never tell you to stop taking any of your prescribed medications.  As your treatment with homeopathy evolves, you can talk to your primary physician about when and how to decrease any medications if the time comes.  There is no negative interaction of homeopathic remedies with prescriptions or over the counter medications.

Please fill out the appropriate intake form to your best ability and email it back to me before our appointment.  You can print the informed consent and bring it in with you or sign it in the office.  Thank you.

First consultations include the cost of your remedy and a copy of Dr. Timothy R. Dooley's book, 'Homeopathy, Beyond Flat Earth Medicine'.  Follow up appointments do not include the cost of a remedy.

Birth Doula

Congratulations on your upcoming birth! Research shows that having a birthing doula by your side can aid in lowering the use of Pitocin as well as lowering the chance of having a cesarean section. As a former labor and delivery nurse, I have hundreds of delivery experiences to draw upon. I am so happy to provide the constant emotional and physical support to you throughout your labor and delivery experience. It truly is an honor to be a part of such an intimate and life changing moment for each family that I assist. No birth is like another and you too will have your own story to tell. Allow me to help you feel empowered in this incredible journey.

The term doula is originally from the Greek word meaning “woman’s servant.” It is used today to describe a professional who provides women with emotional and physical support during pregnancy, labor, birth and the postpartum period. I am hear to support you and what you envision this birth to be. Part of my role is meeting with you a couple times before your due date so that we can go over any questions and concerns that you have. I am available to you via text and phone, though texting is easiest. If this is your first pregnancy, there are a lot of new terms to understand, decisions to make, and a lot of emotions that are constantly shifting. I am not only your resource, but a sounding board throughout it all. My goal is to help a mother feel supported not only through the labor and delivery, but the months leading up to it. We may speak weekly as the date approaches, then speak daily as things get really close.

I become “on call” for you the two weeks leading up to your due date and two weeks after the due date. Babies come when they are ready, and that is hard to predict! When your labor really gets going, you will have me come in and I will stay from this moment on till you deliver. There is a back up doula in the event that I can not make the birth due to an unexpected event such as illness. Being the support you need is always top priority.

1, Doula support that includes: the 2 prenatal visits with lots of education and handouts to keep, assistance in creating a birth plan that is right for you and your partner, continuous labor support from active labor until you are settled 1-2 hours in the postpartum phase, preparation and support for breastfeeding, a record of your birth story, and a postpartum visit 1—2 weeks from when you get home. I also offer everyone a healing remedy made specifically for you because each experience is unique and so your needs for healing may be different. $1600.

2. Everything stated above plus homeopathic treatment that may be given and needed anytime during the prenatal period, the labor and delivery period, or by the time of our postpartum visit.. $1800.
